India: 2nd Largest Road Network in the World.



 ROADS are the connectors of the two places whether it is a City, Town or Village. Whether paved or unpaved it is called a road. A Road network is a network of inter-connecting roads which provide facility for the motor vehicles to travel via different routes or to change paths on-the-go.

India has now become the 2nd largest road network in the world, surpassing the neighboring country who is competitor of India in every field yes I am talking about china. India has 5903293Km of road network throughout the country while china having only 5012500Km of road network. India has beaten china by 890793Km length of roads in the country. In terms of Expressways china is far ahead of India it has 149600Km of network while India has only 1643Km of network. 

On the road network list United Sates holds the 1st position having 6853024Km of Road network and in terms of expressways it has 95932Km of network, less than china by 53668Km. 

Russia & Canada being the 1st & 2nd   largest country in the world by the spreaded surface area in the world stands on the 5th & 9th position in the list of top 10 countries by length of Road-Network. Russia has only 1529373Km of road network and only 6768Km of expressways. Canada has only 1042300Km of road network. But in terms of expressways Canada stands at 3rd position having 17041Km of network.

India is a vast country having surface area of about 3287263Km2 and it is quite obvious to connect each and every big or small villages/cities with each other in such a large country we need a large road network. In order to meet that requirement, 5903293Km of road is provided by the Govt. of India. India has 3733242Km of paved roads in the country which is around 64% of the total road network of India. 


National  Highways in India contribute to the 1.9% of the total road network in India but it carries a traffic of upto 40% of the total traffic.
